When you google “what would the world be without love” Some of the top answers were that it would “cease to exist” or that “all life would not be the experience we know now”. How many philosophers have tried to explain love. Love is this thing that we can’t fully grasp, it’s something so much bigger than I believe we can ever comprehend. We see it displayed in so many ways, but yet I get this feeling that we haven’t even scratched the surface as to the depths of which love can go.
Valentines Day is not the only day people tell each other “I love you”. It’s been Hallmarked into being the day of love and cupids and candy hearts. However, I believe that each day should be a day of love. I love to celebrate love. It’s why I do what I do, capturing weddings and trying to give a glimpse of the bigger picture of what love is. My favorite explanation of what love is comes from author, C.S. Lewis –
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
I want to offer a special to those that celebrate love. Whether your love has been tempered through the ages or is just beginning to blossom, I want to capture that essence for you.
